Reminders for Responsible Pet Ownership

Being a dog parent is one of the best things that you can take on. Much like having your own offspring, your pet dog can be seen as your child. They can be your companion; you can find solace and comfort in them, and they give you a retreat from the pressures of your adult responsibilities. A lot of the time, people really see them as a friend, even beyond being taken for granted as part of the family.

The relationship has to be mutually beneficial, however. In as much as your being a dog owner gives you these advantages, you should also remember to take care of your dog in the best way possible. They are not just there to give you all these benefits – they should be regarded as a living creature that needs nourishment, care, and love as well.

The following are some reminders of how to be a responsible pet owner, specifically, what you need to remember to keep being a good dog parent:

Use food bowl to feed your dog

Feed Your Dog Properly

Our diet plays a major role in our overall health and well-being and helps in our prevention of chronic illness. Remember that the same goes for our canine counterparts! You should be careful what you feed your dog, instead of giving them whatever’s just leftover from dinner. Also, make sure to give them adequate overall nutrition. A lot of dogs become prone to chronic illnesses because they are not given the proper diet.

Don’t just buy the cheapest dog food you can find in the supermarket. A lot of these have processed ingredients – extenders that are big on the quantity but not the quality. Consider instead, more natural sources of nutrition that give your dog the whole package. If it’s hard for you to prepare home-cooked meals, there are good quality dog foods such as earthborn holistic dog food that can give your dog all the nutrients that they need.

Give Your Dog a Proper Shelter

Your dog’s specific shelter needs depend on the type of dog that he is. Some need to spend a lot of time outdoors, while some perform most optimally when inside the house, mingling with their humans. Wherever your dog is stationed, make sure that the structure is dog-proof. Keep out of their reach, things that could injure or poison them; keep them away from other pet animals that could incite chaos; keep the temperature right for their specific body type.

Provide Proper Healthcare

Your dog needs the proper shots, not just for him but for the safety of the humans he lives with as well. Pay regular visits to the vet especially if there are concerns that you cannot address domestically.

 Let Your Dog Roam Freely

Though it may be normal to keep some dogs in a pen or cage for periods of time, it is important, that you let them out to give them adequate exercise as well. Walk them every day, and let them run freely when they can. This helps them become less violent, as well as more sociable to other dogs, which in turn can help them become better companions to their humans.

Owning a dog is not a joke, so you should make sure you will be able to take care of them properly. Give them the love and attention that they need, and be a responsible dog parent, just as much as you should be a good parent to your children.
